How to watermark pdf

About watermarking
The watermark is real text drawn into each page, not a flattened image, so it stays crisp at any zoom and adds almost nothing to the file size. Diagonal runs corner to corner, the way a DRAFT stamp reads; centred sits behind the content like a background mark.
The text scales itself: each page measures its own width and sizes the text to about sixty percent of it, so a long phrase and a short one both sit sensibly on Letter, A4 and odd-sized pages alike.
Opacity is the lever that matters. Around 20 percent, the watermark reads as a stamp and the content stays primary. Above 40 percent it starts fighting the text; below 10 it can vanish on dark scans. The default of 20 suits most documents.
Limits and honest notes
The watermark is not security. Anyone with a PDF editor can remove a text stamp; watermarking states status, it does not enforce it. For enforcement, use the protect tool.
Only Latin characters render (the standard font set). Draw text is set under any existing content on the page, so it shows through in gaps rather than over black boxes.

Frequently asked questions
Can the watermark be removed later?
Yes, by anyone with a PDF editor, because it is ordinary page content. Watermarking marks status; it is not protection. Use Protect PDF when a document must not be opened.
Why does my watermark look faint?
That is the opacity setting. Raise it towards 40 for scans, or keep it at 20 when the text underneath must stay primary.
Can I use an image as the watermark?
This tool stamps text. For pictures, add your logo to the photo version with the watermark-image tool, or compose the page in a design tool first.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The stamp is drawn in your browser, on your device.
